Resumen (en inglés): Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites that need to co-opt a living cell’s machinery for replication. At the heart of the viral replication machinery are the nucleic acid polymerases, which are responsible for efficiently copying the viral genome. This process must often be coordinated with other viral processes including protein translation and viral packaging. The nucleic acid polymerases may also be responsible for generating genetic diversity that is important for escape from the host’s defenses. The polymerases and other components of the replication machinery may serve as potential anti-viral targets. In this Special Issue, we seek to highlight recent advances into uncovering the structure and function of viral replication complexes. We are especially seeking to highlight the wide-range of methodologies used to gain structural insight into viral replication. Topics of interest include molecular mechanisms of nucleic acid polymerases, nucleic acid recognition and translocation, fidelity and error correction, interactions with lipid membranes, and coordination/regulation of transcription, translation and replication processes.

Resumen (en inglés): Viral Transformation and Endogenous Viruses is a collection of papers presented at the symposium on ""Viral Transformation and Endogenous Viruses"" held at Vanderbilt University on April 1-2, 1974. Contributors discuss the viral function(s) responsible for the transformation of the cells that are infected with oncogenic viruses, emphasizing the type of changes that characterize transformed cells and the regulatory mechanisms that are altered after malignant transformations.
This volume is organized into 10 chapters and begins with an overview of DNA-containing tumor viruses, particularly Simian Virus 40 (SV40) and its mutants with DNA deletions, insertions, and duplications. The integration and transcription of adenovirus DNA is considered, along with the characteristics of temperature-sensitive mutants of these viruses. The reader is then introduced to the chemistry and biology of RNA-containing tumor viruses, which are useful reagents to study neoplastic transformation both in vivo and in vitro. A major aspect of these viruses concerns the analysis of their genome at the chemical and genetic levels. The last part of the book is devoted to biochemical and genetic analyses of endogenous viruses isolated from avian cells.
This book is a valuable resource for scientists and investigators in fields such as pathology, molecular virology, molecular biology, microbiology, oncology, and biochemistry.

This is the only book on a novel fundamental method that uses quantum many body theoretical approach to synthesis of nanomaterials by design. This approach allows the first-principle prediction of transport properties of strongly spatially non-uniform systems, such as small QDs and molecules, where currently used DFT-based methods either fail, or have to use empirical parameters. The book discusses modified algorithms that allow mimicking experimental synthesis of novel nanomaterials---to compare the results with the theoretical predictions--and provides already developed electronic templates of sub-nanoscale systems and molecules that can be used as components of larger materials/fluidic systems.

  • The only publication on quantum many body theoretical approach to synthesis of nano- and sub-nanoscale systems by design.
  • Novel and existing many-body field theoretical, computational methods are developed and used to realize the theoretical predictions for materials for IR sensors, light sources, information storage and processing, electronics, light harvesting, etc. Novel algorithms for EMD and NEMD molecular simulations of the materials’ synthesis processes and charge-spin transport in synthesized systems are developed and described.
