ISBNs 9783110278736 9783110276343

Colección: Directory of Open Access Books

Resumen (en inglés): This book is an introduction to the subjects of linked data, open data and open linked data, and to their specific relevance for libraries. It illustrates these concepts through detailed descriptions of actual data projects. The volume will be useful to individuals involved in library practice and those in library management who have not yet become familiarized with these important contemporary fields.

Data Information Literacy

Librarians, Data and the Education of a New Generation of Researchers

Purdue University Press, 2015.

Título de la serie/colección: Purdue Information Literacy Handbooks.

ISBNs 9781557536969 9781612493510

Colección: Directory of Open Access Books

Resumen (en inglés): Given the increasing attention to managing, publishing, and preserving research datasets as scholarly assets, what competencies in working with research data will graduate students in STEM disciplines need to be successful in their fields? And what role can librarians play in helping students attain these competencies? In addressing these questions, this book articulates a new area of opportunity for librarians and other information professionals, developing educational programs that introduce graduate students to the knowledge and skills needed to work with research data. The term “data information literacy” has been adopted with the deliberate intent of tying two emerging roles for librarians together. By viewing information literacy and data services as complementary rather than separate activities, the contributors seek to leverage the progress made and the lessons learned in each service area.

Data Sciences

From First Order Logic to the Web

Paris: Collège de France, 2012.

Título de la serie/colección: Leçons inaugurales - Collège de France. ISSN 0294-0310,

ISBNs 9782722601796

Colección: Directory of Open Access Books

Resumen (en inglés): Relational database management systems, using as foundations a formal language, first-order logic, serve as mediators between individuals and machines. With the increase in the volume of data disseminated on the Web, a “collective intelligence” is currently emerging, shaped by large search engines whose monopoly raises ethical and political questions. One of the main challenges for the coming years is the development of technologies that will make it possible to find, evaluate, validate, verify and rank information, and thus to build tomorrow’s “Web of knowledge”.

ESPAS e-infrastructure, The

Access to data from near-Earth space

EDP SCIENCES, .

ISBNs 9782759819492

Colección: Directory of Open Access Books

Resumen (en inglés): ESPAS provides an e-Infrastructure to support access to a wide range of archived observations and model derived data for the near-Earth space environment, extending from the Earth's middle atmosphere up to the outer radiation belts. To this end, ESPAS will serve as a central access hub for researchers who wish to exploit multi-instrument multipoint data for scientific discovery, model development and validation, and data assimilation, among others. Observation based and model enhanced scientific understanding of the physical state of the Earth's space environment and its evolution is critical to advancing space weather and space climate studies, two very active branches of current scientific research.

Open Data Structures

An Introduction

Athabasca University Press, 2013.

Título de la serie/colección: OPEL (Open Paths to Enriched Learning). ISSN 2291-2614,

ISBNs 9781927356388 9781927356395

Colección: Directory of Open Access Books

Resumen (en inglés): Offered as an introduction to the field of data structures and algorithms, Open Data Structures covers the implementation and analysis of data structures for sequences (lists), queues, priority queues, unordered dictionaries, ordered dictionaries, and graphs. Focusing on a mathematically rigorous approach that is fast, practical, and efficient, Morin clearly and briskly presents instruction along with source code. Analyzed and implemented in Java, the data structures presented in the book include stacks, queues, deques, and lists implemented as arrays and linked-lists; space-efficient implementations of lists; skip lists; hash tables and hash codes; binary search trees including treaps, scapegoat trees, and red-black trees; integer searching structures including binary tries, x-fast tries, and y-fast tries; heaps, including implicit binary heaps and randomized meldable heaps; graphs, including adjacency matrix and adjacency list representations; and B-trees. A modern treatment of an essential computer science topic, Open Data Structures is a measured balance between classical topics and state-of-the art structures that will serve the needs of all undergraduate students or self-directed learners.

Sciences des données

de la logique du premier ordre à la Toile Vol. 226

Paris: Collège de France, 2012.

Título de la serie/colección: Leçons inaugurales - Collège de France. ISSN 0294-0310,

ISBNs 9782213669106 9782722601710

Colección: Directory of Open Access Books
